[edit] Standard Editing Guidelines

Here you will find the standard guidelines that users should follow when creating, or editing, the pages within FairylandWiki. All of the standards set forth in this page are subject to change as we, the users, discuss them.

When editing or creating pages:

  • Please use decent English and grammar. This an English language wiki, and we would like to see good English. If you are not a native speaker then please ask someone that is to edit your writing. With this in mind no one should persecute those that are not native speakers and post without having had someone edit their writing. Nor should we be to harsh on the kiddies that just want to help.
  • Please use a spell check program. Everyone with a computer should be able to spell check.
  • Proofread your own edits at least twice before posting them. If you can then ask someone else to proofread it for you as well. This will save the rest of us from having to edit the page to fix errors.
  • Please only post factual verifiable information, not speculation. If you have some intersting speculation, or information that you cant verify then post that in the discussion page and ask someone to verify it for you.
  • Be sure to fill out the summary when you post. It will help others to know what was edited and why. You don't need to fill out a detailed report on it, just a few words.
  • Please discuss major edits before making them. A major edit would include changing a lot of information, or changing information that is considered important. It is useful to give people a chance to discus these before they are made. If no one responds in a day or two then there should not be a problem with making that edit and leaving your reasons in the discussion page.
  • There shouldn't be a need to discuss minor edits like spelling, grammar, and minor information like the price of a sheep's skin.

When posting in the Discussions:

  • Please try to be clear and concise and use the best English that you can.
  • Keep your posts on subject, these pages are not message boards or chat rooms, they are a source of factual and useful information. If you want to chat with a user, each user has a user page and a discussion page attached to it.
  • Please sign your posts. To do that you only type four tildes, (~~~~)in a row with no spaces between, at the end of each post. Doing so will automatically sign and date your post.
